October 8th, 2008
Many of the methods continue to improve. Today, it is not as easy to spot a person who has obvious - and bad - hair plugs as it once was. The process is still not widely understood however and only a few facts are known to people.
Noticeable baldness is a problem for many American men - an estimated 50% experience hair loss. One alternative men decide to try to deal with their hair loss is the option of shaving their heads entirely. Others take the exact opposite route and have hair transplant surgery. It is true that some men simply accept their hair loss but these men are completely out of sync with the rest of the world.
A major factor in surgical procedures is the fact that they are permanent, and cannot be removed with the simplicity of a wig. Not only will your head may never look the same, you will require a number of surgical treatments. You’re stuck with the procedure once you begin.
You might think that because the surgery is so easy to bear that you can just jump back into your activities, but the truth is, you’ll need plenty of rest after hair transplant surgery. You might also think that it is just your scalp after all, not muscle or bone. In actuality, you have many small wounds following surgery and you’ll need to protect those wounds.
Hair transplant surgery can be a time-consuming commitment: Treatment can often last one to two years. Sometimes you can opt to have a marathon session to try to reduce the number of grafts you have performed. The commitment required for these sessions is grueling in and of itself, often requiring a serious amount of time to be performed.
Normal treatment is not always available to everyone and some people do not have enough hair to undergo hair transplant surgery. In order to obtain the desired results, other procedures can be done at the same time. Most patients agree that these additional procedures are the cause of additional pain.
Though there are few surgeons that will tell you, you should be aware that the grafts you have in hair transplant surgery may not all survive. The hope is that only a few will be lost and the overall result will not suffer. In actuality, however, many grafts simply do not make it.
The typical range of payment for hair transplant treatments is around 12,000 dollars. For example, if you get the procedure done at 30 and die at 70, you have paid 300 dollars per year for 40 years of use and this averages out to about 25 dollars per month. Many “low cost” treatments for hair loss cost much more money than per month. You would actually save by getting the surgery done in the first place.
